The Americano (not the coffee drink) was invented in the 1860's by Gaspare Campari at his bar, Caffè Campari, in Milan, Italy. It possibly got its name from the American Tourists that ordered the drink. The drink is a twist on the Milano-Torino, which doesn't have Soda Water. It also possibly inspired the Negroni. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.
