The Knickerbocker's origins are a mystery. It used to be assumed that it was invented at the Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City, but the drink first appeared in the mid 1800's, and the Hotel was build in 1906. In the 1800's, the term "Knickerbocker" meant a New Yorker with Dutch ancestry, so it is still assumed that the drink was invented in New York.
