Some claim it was invented by Robert "Rosebud" Butt in 1972 at the Oak Beach Inn in Long Island, New York, while others claim it was invented in the 1920's by "Old Man Bishop" in Long Island, Tennessee. Cuba Libre

Ingredients

2 oz.

Rum

.25 oz.

Lime Juice

Cola

Directions

  1. Combine the Rum and Lime Juice in a Highball Glass over Ice

  2. Top with Cola

  3. Stir for 13 Seconds

The Cuba Libre, or Rum & Coke, was created in Cuba in the early 1900's. The name comes from a slogan from the Cuban Independence Movement and means "Free Cuba." It became popular when Coca-Cola first started to be imported from the U.S. to Cuba. A Bacardi advertising executive, named Fausto Rodriguez, claims to have been present when the first one was poured in August 1900. He claims an American Soldier ordered Bacardi mixed with Coke and the rest is History. This is an IBA Official Cocktail.
