Homemade Orgeat

Ingredients

1 Cup

Unsweetened Almond Milk

1.5 Cups

Sugar

​3 Dashes

Orange Blossom Water (Optional)

1 Bar Spoon

Almond Extract

Directions

  1. Combine the Sugar and Almond Milk in a Pot over Medium Heat

  2. Stir till Combined

  3. Add the rest of the ingredients

  4. Stir till Combined

  5. Pour into a Glass Jar or Bottle



Orgeat is a Cocktail Syrup that is used in a variety of Tiki Cocktails like the Mai Tai. It was originally made with Barley, but was eventually changed. It was also made using some Bitter Almonds at one point, but because they contain Cyanide and can be deadly at large quantities, only Sweet Almonds are used now.

Whiskey Sour

Ingredients

2 oz.

Bourbon (or Rye Whiskey)

.75 oz

Lemon Juice

.5 oz.

.5 oz.

Egg White

Whiskey Sour

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a Cocktail Shaker

  2. Dry Shake vigorously for 20 Seconds

  3. Add Ice to the Shaker

  4. Wet Shake for 15 Seconds

  5. Strain into a Rocks Glass over Ice

  6. Garnish with an Orange Slice and Luxardo Cherry or 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters



The Whiskey Sour is an old cocktail originating sometime around the Mid-1800's. Not much else is known about origin of this sour. This is an Official IBA Cocktail.

Suffering Bastard

Ingredients

1 oz.

Brandy (or Bourbon)

1 oz.

London Dry Gin

.5 oz.

Lime Juice

2 Dashes

Angostura Bitters

Ginger Beer

Directions

  1. Combine the Liquor, Lime Juice and Bitters into a Cocktail Shaker with Cracked Ice

  2. Shake for 15 Seconds

  3. Open Pour into a Collins Glass

  4. Top with Ginger Beer

  5. Stir for 13 Seconds

  6. Garnish with a Mint Sprig

  7. Add a Straw



The Suffering Bastard was supposedly invented in 1942 by Joe Scialom at the Shepard's Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. It was said to be made as a hangover cure for Soldiers during World War II. This is an Official IBA Cocktail. The Trader Vic's version of this drink has more of a Tiki Vibe with Rum and Orgeat and is served in a special Suffering Bastard Tiki Mug.


Trader Vic's Suffering Bastard

Ingredients

2 oz.

Dark Rum

1 oz.

Light Rum

1 oz.

Lime Juice

.25 oz.

​Curaçao (Orange Liqueur)

.25 oz.

.25 oz.

Rock Candy Syrup (or Simple Syrup)

Directions

  1. Combine the ingredients in a Cocktail Shaker with Cracked Ice

  2. Shake for 15 Seconds

  3. Open Pour into a Suffering Bastard Tiki Mug or Rocks Glass

  4. Garnish with a Sprig of Mint, Wedge of Lime, and Cucumber Spear

  5. Add a Straw
